Airborne imaging spectrometer measurements of methane releases under turbulent conditions
Journal · International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1–24 · 0 citations
A compact shortwave-infrared imaging spectrometer, built for the AIRMO mission, was flown at about 2 km over controlled methane releases at TotalEnergies' test site in Lacq. It detected and quantified plumes from 54 kg of methane per hour, sometimes down to 15 kg/h, and located the sources within about ±30 m.

Bio-inspired surface modification of aluminium heat exchanger fins using laser structuring and PDMS coating for improved and scalable hydrophobic and ice-adhesion performance
Journal · The Journal of Adhesion 101(16), 1906–1921 · 0 citations
Ice on aluminium fins lowers the efficiency of air-source heat pumps. Laser interference patterning created bio-inspired microstructures with an 18 µm period, then a thin PDMS coating was added. Together they raised the water contact angle by about 40° while keeping ice adhesion low, in a process designed to scale.

Composed multicore fiber structure for extended sensor multiplexing with fiber Bragg gratings
Journal · Sensors 22(10), 3837 · 3 citations
A multicore fiber mixes photosensitive and non-photosensitive cores, is cut into pieces, and is spliced back together with a rotation. Light then reaches each new set of gratings through cores that were left unwritten. This doubled the sensing length without losing spatial resolution, and the design suits industrial draw-tower production.

Optimization of multicore optical fibers with fiber Bragg gratings towards bend and shape sensing
Thesis · Doctoral thesis (Dr. rer. nat.), Friedrich Schiller University Jena
The thesis tackles three things that limit multicore-fiber shape sensors: writing the gratings, characterizing and calibrating the fiber, and multiplexing many sensors. It introduces measuring fiber orientation and twist from scattered light, a calibration that halves the curvature error, and two new multiplexing schemes: one without a fan-out, and one that doubles the sensor length.

Experimental approach for complex optical fiber angular orientation and twist measurement
Journal · Advanced Photonics Research 3(1), 2100161 · 2 citations
Fibers that aren't round-symmetric must be oriented precisely for splicing, selective grating writing and direction-sensitive sensing. Light scattered from the side of the fiber is compared with reference patterns, which reveals its orientation without reconstructing the cross-section. Scanning along the fiber also measures its built-in twist. Tested on multicore, ribbon and photonic crystal fibers.

Multikernfaser mit Multikern-Faserkomponenten sowie Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung
Patent · German patent DE102019132569B3
A way to make multicore fibers whose photosensitivity changes along their length. Fiber segments are rotated and fused so that cores link into continuous light paths, and gratings are written as a mosaic. The result is a longer sensing range and denser sensor multiplexing without needing more spectral bandwidth. Cited by four later patents.

Characterization and calibration of shape sensors based on multicore optical fibre
Journal · Optical Fiber Technology 61, 102319 · 23 citations
Real multicore fibers have irregular core positions, slightly different optical responses per core, and a built-in twist. Calibrating each core individually cut the maximum curvature error of a shape sensor from 2.48% to 1.36%, and the average error from 0.89% to 0.5%.

In-plane wavelength multiplexing of fibre Bragg gratings in a multicore optical fibre
Conference · Proc. SPIE 11207, Applications of Optics and Photonics (AOP 2019), 112072O · 2 citations
Gratings are written into all cores at once while the fiber is bent, so each core gets a slightly different grating. Once the fiber is straightened, the cores reflect at evenly spaced wavelengths. All sensors can then be read through one channel, without a fan-out or a multichannel spectrometer.

Optimisation of fibre Bragg gratings inscription in multicore fibres
Conference · Optical Fiber Sensors (OFS-26), paper WF64 · 4 citations
The fiber cladding focuses the writing laser unevenly, so gratings in different cores come out with different strengths. A setup that controls the fiber's orientation improved uniformity. In a 7-core fiber about 30% spread remained even at the best angle, while bad angles can produce unwanted grating types or damage cores.

Spectral characteristics study of phase-shifted fiber Bragg gratings under pressure applied perpendicular to fiber axis
Journal · Scientific and Technical Journal of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics 18(5), 751–757 · 4 citations
Phase-shifted gratings were made simply: written with a Talbot interferometer, then given a phase shift with an arc splicer. Pressing on the fiber from the side splits the spectral dip in two, and the spacing grows with the load. This points to simple fiber-optic pressure sensors.

Inscription of superimposed fiber Bragg gratings using a Talbot interferometer
Journal · Journal of Optical Technology 84(10), 694–697 · 6 citations
Several Bragg gratings were written on top of each other in the same piece of fiber, including Russian-made specialty fibers. A KrF excimer MOPA laser and a Talbot interferometer were used. The paper shows how the spectrum changes as more gratings are superimposed.

Fiber Bragg gratings inscription using Talbot interferometer and KrF excimer laser system
Journal · Journal of Instrument Engineering 60(5), 466–473 · 4 citations
Describes a complete laboratory station for writing Bragg gratings: a highly coherent excimer laser, beam delivery, a Talbot interferometer, and monitoring of the beam and fiber position. Reports gratings written with single and multiple pulses, and a method for comparing how photosensitive different fibers are.

Laboratory setup for fiber Bragg gratings inscription based on Talbot interferometer
Journal · Optical and Quantum Electronics 48(12), 540 · 36 citations
Presents the laboratory setup built at ITMO University for writing fiber Bragg gratings with a Talbot interferometer and a KrF excimer laser. It is the English-language counterpart to the Russian paper on the same station, and Ravil's most-cited paper.

Spectral characteristics of draw-tower step-chirped fiber Bragg gratings
Journal · Optics & Laser Technology 80, 112–115 · 10 citations
Studies the reflection spectra of step-chirped Bragg gratings that are written directly while the fiber is being drawn, before it is coated. A joint study by ITMO University and Leibniz-IPHT.
About the summaries
Summaries were generated by AI from the abstracts, the dissertation and the patent text. The total citation count is from Google Scholar as of October 2026. Citation counts for each paper are loaded live from OpenAlex, an open research database. They are usually lower than Google Scholar's, because Scholar also counts theses, preprints and other sources.
